Thank You!
Many thanks to the community of Lake Hodges for their help in removing the biomass for the Oak Woodland Restoration Project.
About 15 cords of wood were removed by volunteers for personal use. Wow!

JANUARY 2016 NEWSLETTER - DEL DIOS HABITAT PROTECTION LEAGUE
The Del Dios Habitat Protection League has launched their website this month, www.ddhpl.org. The site includes information about the organization, their projects, and events. Additional content is planned for February and will present information about volunteering, becoming a member or sponsor, image galleries, and more.
PROJECT UPDATE
Eucalyptus removal for Phase 2 is almost done. Cal Fire Correctional Crews have done the bulk of the work at Windsurf Beach, Del Dios Park and Green Lagoon. Another 10+ cords of firewood were offered roadside to the community of Del Dios, complements of the Oak Woodland Project, Friends of Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve and the City of San Diego.
On January 10th, the Del Dios Habitat Protection League and the Solana Beach Eco Rotary Club had a very successful "planting party". The group planted 150 native plants, including oaks, sycamore, willow, and mulefat. The next planting party will be February 8th.
This month, we will continue treating weeds and eucalyptus. Affected areas near the trail will be posted at least a day before hand-spraying occurs.
One of the easiest ways to lend a hand in the DDHPL Projects is to keep informed. Trail closures, work party events, and project updates are published monthly in this newsletter and on our website.

Come on down & get your hands dirty!
This is where it gets fun - with Phase 2 plant removal nearly complete, native planting has begun.
Assist with the habitat restoration of Lake Hodges & help make a difference!
Please wear clothes that can get dirty, long pants, close-toed shoes, and bring water and gloves. Meet at Del Dios Park 8AM.
A great post from Deborah Small's Ethnobotany Blog. While the facts resonate with our restoration project, the remedies using sycamore bark are interesting.
Complements of the Oak Woodland Fire Fuel Reduction Project
It goes quickly, so act now before the lake opens Feb 3rd!
Entering work areas (even to grab firewood) is only permitted by workers and volunteers; sign the waiver to claim volunteer status & grab all the wood you need!
The waiver has all the fine print about volunteering with the City to remove "Biomass" aka Firewood from the project site, and is located on the clipboard near the porta potty at Green Lagoon. You can sign the form on the clipboard there, or Download the Volunteer Waiver here.
